In 1861 he was a member of the local Red River County Rangers. Records show that he
enlisted in Co. D, 34th Texas Cav. (Alexander's Regiment,) on March 7, 1862, at Pine Creek, Tex. He was appointed Captain,
March 7, 1862. The Regiment served in the Indian Territory and as a part of what became Polignac's Brigade, fought at Shirley's
Ford and Newtonia, Missouri and Prairie Grove, Ark. In 1862.Then in the Spring of 1863, the unit wasreorganized and Caudle
was placed in command, first as Lt. Col., promoted Aug. 22, 1863. Muster roll Field and staff for Jan. and Feb. 1864 (latest
on file) shows him as a Lt. Col. Presence or absence not stated. He was later promoted Colonel on April 22, 1865 to date Aug.
27, 1865. Regimental Returns for April 1865 shows him present, a Colonel. He led the regiment in action at Vidalia and Harrisonburg
and in the Red River Campaign in Louisiana during 1864, continuing as its commander until
it was disbanded in Texas in the Spring of 1865. Capture, parole, or later record not found. The 34th Tex. Cav. appears to
